Alberti’s Lady’s Kisses – Baci di Dama

Baci di Dama – Italian for “Lady’s Kisses,” these little sandwich hazelnut cookies layered with chocolate are a perfect accompaniment to an after-dinner espresso.

They are very delicate and have a melt-in-your-mouth texture that is very addictive.

Named for their shape which is said to resemble the lips of a lady intent on kissing!

Makes about 20 – 25 baci di dama

Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter softened
  • 2/3 cup superfine sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup ground hazelnuts
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Nutella

Method

Preheat oven to 350F. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until soft and creamy. Add the vanilla extract and beat again. Add the flour and ground hazelnuts and mix until a dough starts to form. Shape into a ball and leave to rest for 30 minutes.

Scoop 1 level teaspoon of dough and roll into a walnut sized ball. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Repeat with remaining dough, spacing balls 1 inch apart.

Bake cookies until domed and light golden, about 15 minutes. Let cool completely. When the biscuits are completely cool, sandwich two together with a teaspoon of Nutella. Repeat with remaining cookies and enjoy!
